Healthy Panther Initiative: Dani Smith

The Healthy Panther Initiative (HPI) developed through the support of the Crean Foundation in collaboration with the Dean of Students Office and the department of PEER and Health Education is a required program for all new and transfer students.
The main HPI goal is to equip new students with information and skills to help them make informed and healthy decisions in relation to health-related areas of their lives. HPI defines a Healthy Panther as a student who consistently respects the community and is knowledgeable about healthy relationships and boundaries, including affirmative consent in relation to intimacy. Healthy Panther also discusses the significance of personal responsibility related to the use of Active Bystander Intervention Skills.
The program also educates students about the effects that alcohol and other drugs can have on their bodies, their decision making, and presents potential consequences related to the use and abuse of substances. HPI also emphasizes the importance of developing a healthy plan regarding the use of alcohol, drinking in moderation or not at all, and provides relevant campus resource information.
In addition to our Healthy Panther Initiative, there is a required online module that all new and transfer students must also complete. Each new and transfer student will automatically be signed-up for this course via Canvas and will receive additional detailed information in the coming weeks.
This online module covers:
1) Important information about sexual harassment and sexual violence
2) Information about Chapman University’s sexual misconduct response and discusses federal, state, and local laws regarding consent and intimacy, also informing students about the reporting process related to sexual harassment and sexual/interpersonal violence at Chapman University.
